City of Pataskala contracts with Local Waste Services for
residential refuse and recycling collection
The City of Pataskala has contracted with Local Waste Services for residential refuse and recycling collection.
The City solicited bids for the exclusive contract for residential refuse and recycling collection, as required by our Codified Ordinances. We received three (3) bids in response to our advertisement. Currently, Waste Management holds the exclusive contract for residential refuse and recycling collection. Waste Management submitted the most expensive bid for the new contract. Additionally, Waste Management planned to switch to a service where anything placed out for collection would have to be in one of their provided carts. Anything, including lawn bags, which was not in a cart would not have been collected. This seemed like a restrictive service and one that we felt was not appropriate for our community.
Local Waste Services and Rumpke submitted the other two bids. Both of their bids were nearly identical in price. Ultimately, the City chose to contract with Local Waste Services.
The current contract with Waste Management expires on September 30, 2019. Over the next several weeks, Local Waste Services will deliver refuse and recycling carts to all residents in the community. Additionally, Waste Management will coordinate collection of their carts from all customers. You will also receive a letter from Local Waste Services that will provide information regarding their service.
Important information regarding contract with Local Waste Services:
- Monthly cost – $18.75/month. Includes one 96 gallon refuse cart and a 65 gallon recycling cart
- Additional carts can be rented for a cost of $3.00/month
- Senior rate: $16.88/month
- Collection day: Every Friday
